The name is redolent of the old cattle trekking trails of the North American plains, but there is nothing old or old fashioned about the Hyundai Santa Fe. This is an elegant Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that oozes style and charisma and is available either as a five-seat version or as a seven seater, making it a car to suit most families. Bad weather and poor driving conditions can be countered by the rugged four-wheel drive system and the car is also capable of towing heavy loads.
Safety is a priority for the new Hyundai Santa Fe and all features are standard across the range. These include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Traction Control System (TCS). A sensor triggers the six front, side and curtain airbags and there are seat belt pre-tensioners in the event that the vehicle rolls over. Side impact bars and a heavily tested outer shell ensure as much driver and passenger protection as possible.
Two engine types are available for the Hyundai Santa Fe. Both are diesel 2.2 litre CRDis, with one having six-speed manual transmission and the other six-speed automatic transmission. These are available on the Style and the Premium versions of the car. The five-seat manual Santa Fe achieves a combined fuel consumption of 41.5 mpg, with its automatic cousin coming in TN Pas Cher at 39.2 mpg. The Nike Tn Pas Cher seven Nike Shox seater manual version has combined consumption of 41.5 mpg, the same as the five seater, with the automatic engine turning in 38.2 mpg, only a touch less than the five seater.
The Style has 17 inch alloy wheels and the Premium 18 inch versions. Air-conditioning comes as standard for both models and an electronic Torque on demand system has a lock-in function that monitors driving and road conditions and can automatically engage four-wheel drive when required, thus helping to get the best driving economy in normal conditions. Premium models come with dual zone climate control, enabling the driver and front seat passenger to individually select what temperature they prefer.
An Eco Drive Indicator comes as standard, as does Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition and reversing sensors that are body coloured. A leather steering wheel and gear knob are also standard features. Additional standard equipment on the Premium includes automatic lights, cruise control, heated front seats, privacy glass, electric folding mirrors and a rain sensor.
