New Audi cars are very cutting edge - design and technology wise, the newest design language was first seen in 2006 with the Audi A4 and TN Pas Cher Q7. Both cars have a wraparound waist line that is more pronounced to give the car a cleaner look. This design ethos TN Requin has continued throughout the range and has been applied to the Nike Requin newest model, the Audi Q3.
With the new and ever expanding model range Audi has to offer the guys at the top want to make sure all models adhere to the same design language. This can be difficult considering the variations in body styles from Hatchback to SUV. But according to Audi design Chief Stefan Sielaff Audi is well into a design revamp.
The project has been code named AQR, the A stands for Audi saloon and hatchbacks, Q for Quattro SUV models and the R stands for Sports Cars. The design team are dictating top level design values such as the slope-back angle for the grille on the three types of models, headlamp shape and body surfacing.
Under the AQR system, for example, Audi will ensure that all saloons will have a more sloped-back grille, while the Q and SUV models will feature more upright grilles. Audi has been said to produce too similar looking cars, on the road it is very difficult to tell apart an A6 model from an A8 model and sometimes even the A4. With more SUVs in the range now some are having issues distinguishing between the Q5 and Q3, personally I struggle with the Q5 and Q7.
Stefan Sielaff recognises this and says, We know that some people think our saloons look too alike and are well into a project to change that. We will mainly do that with the proportions of those cars.
